NCC bygger Ångströmslaboratoriet vid Uppsala Universitet
The research and education in physics and astronomy at Uppsala University extends from the innermost building blocks of matter through consideration of molecules and materials to the structure and development of stars and the universe. A new technique for reducing light interference during telescope observations enables imaging of Earth-like planets in nearby solar systems. An international team of astronomers and physicists, including researchers from Uppsala University, have used a diamond coronagraph to look for planets in the solar system Alpha Centauri, just 4.4 light years away. Anders Ångström was appointed professor of physics in 1858.

Ångström Visualisation Lab The lab is intendend for both students and researchers/teachers, who want to work creatively with digital visualisation, try VR technology and learn new programs in open workshops. This has led to “New Ångström” – the largest construction project in Uppsala University’s history – involving the construction of two new buildings totalling 30,000 square metres (Building 9 and Building 10) and extensive relocations to optimise operations in Ångström Laboratory’s existing premises. The “New Ångström” building project, the largest in the history of Uppsala University, involves two new buildings (Building 9 and Building 10) as well as relocationsthroughout the existing buildings to optimise operations at the Ångström Laboratory. Read more about the project here. Uppsala University has over 45,000 students, more than 7,000 employees and a turnover of around SEK 7 billion. The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. 2021-04-12 Naming contest at Ångström Lab In spring 2022, a completely new exhibition will arrive at Ångström Lab. Until 10 May, you can contribute Myfab Uppsala The Ångström Microstructure Laboratory provides a unique resource for R&D in the micro- & nanotechnology field.

The research conducted at the Department of Physics and Astronomy encompasses a wide range of physics topics, distributed over ten divisions. Traditionally, these have been made of metal-based materials that are often toxic. Instead, a research group headed by Haining Tian at Uppsala University’s Ångström Laboratory is working to develop nano-sized organic photocatalysts – “polymer dots” – designed to be both environmentally friendly and cost-effective. Uppsala is an active participant in a large number of leading international research collaborations such as CERN, ESO, ESA, ESS, GSI, IceCube and MAXLab.Over the years Uppsala has been awarded two Nobel Prizes through Manne Siegbahn and his son Kai Siegbahn.
